Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born at Winona Minnesota. Parents of Winona Ryder gave her the name of her hometown. Her father Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's parents also happen to be Jewish. Ryder believes herself to be Jewish. Ryder has a younger brother Uria and two half-siblings Jubal as well as Sunyata. Ryder's parents moved her and her siblings to Mendocino County California when Ryder was seven years old. In Mendocino County, they did not have electricity. Television books were Ryder's only distraction to pass the time. Eventually, she was a voracious reader. Ryder began taking acting classes at the age of Ryder was 12years old at the American Conservatory Theatre. In 1986 she landed her first major-screen appearance in the film Lucas when she was just 15 years old. Ryder faced bullying during her high school years. Ryder was hopeful that her work as an actress would make a difference. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. But that didn't stop her pursuing dreams. She got her break in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in 1988. Ryder was later cast in successful roles. He was nominated for two Academy Awards were nominated, one of which was for The Age of Innocence (1996).
